[VAL] Re: Airsteam travel in around Yellowstone Park

Hello fellow Airstreamers,

I just wanted to notify anyone planning to travel in and around Yellowstone
National Park to be prepared for very wintery travel conditions. You should
have tire chains along as I should have this past weekend in Yellowstone.
We saw above average snow pack conditions with new snow falling. Most
campgrounds had snow drifts and snow pack still present.

Saturday there was at least 6 inches on the Sylvan Pass road and last
evening (Monday) we came over the Chief Joseph Highway (7% grade) in near
white-out conditions and snow accumulations of 8 to 10 inches on the road
surface. I very much regreted not having tire chains along but had taken
them out of the Suburban several weeks ago thinking winter was over!
However we made it through without a misshap.

Wildlife viewing was extraordinary, we counted wolves, grizzlys, black bear
mother and two cubs and countless elk and buffalo.

Happy Trails, GAS
