The fastener head you describe sounds like screws commonly used on mobile
homes.
The are used a lot more now because the triangle head doesn't strip out as
easy as a #2 Phillips.
A riv-nut is a blind fastener inserted then pulled in similar manner as a
blind rivet, except a riv-nut has a threaded hole to accept a screw or bolt,
they also come in single or two piece depending on thickness and torque
requirements.
And yes, once they are installed they are done, you can't remove and try to
reuse it.
Any way. To me sounds like you have trailer screw in your trailer.
