Someone may have used another brand of coupler on your trailer -- rendering 
your Thetford connector useless.

Have you tried to purchase "another brand" of coupler for your slinky hose?

At the Airstream store near (if you consider 75 miles near!) me I bought an 
"adaptor" -- it will let me use the "other brand" of Sewer Solution 
connector to the Thetford on my Airstream.

It might be case with you except in reverse -- the connector on your trailer 
might be "the other brand" and you are trying to connect Thetford to it 
instead.
