Re: [VAL] electrical woes

The GFI's (20amp outlets) were added JUST downline from the breaker box, one
for each circuit, in order to protect all the outlets on the circuit. While
not a perfect solution they seem to me to be better protection than what I
had, without spending $$ on GFI breakers, or rigging something on my power
cord (is there something available commercially?)

I had not thought of disconnecting the air conditioner, but all other
appliances are unplugged. The way the airconditioner is wired (seems weird
to me) (a factory retrofit - remember A/C was not standard in 1960!) was to
pull the positive from one of the 20 amp circuits and the neutral from the
other circuit, run them into a separate fuse box for the A/C unit. It has
worked this way since the first A/C unit was added back in the early 70's.

My first thought was that my wiring job to or from the GFI's had gone bad,
so I rewired...no luck.

I will try disconnecting the air conditioner. And try a meter to see if it
is a hot to ground short, or a hot to neutral short! If that doesn't work I
will try to find a new breaker.

Thanks!
