 I'm having to guess because I can't see your outfit:

My old UniVolt has a "Batt -" and a "Batt +" connection. The latter has
a large fuse that actually ties it to the 4 branch circuit fuses. If
that fuse is bad or missing, it'll [not] work just as you describe.

Is yours similar?
