Al,
I have a '71 AS (29') and had the same problem with it last week.  Turns
out that my problem was an inline fuse on the line from the neg. post to
the power converter.  The fuse was not blown but it was so corroded that it
was not making connection.  I had to disconnect the line at the power
converter and tie a wire to it and pull it out by the battery to get to it.
 You might try that.
