  This bunk was sort of like a camp cot or an army stretcher.  It was a pipe 
frame with canvas stretched over it.  Don[t think it was very comfortable and 
  I suspect it was only suitable for light weight bodies, ie. children. I 
think they were still available into the eighties.

I was lead to this page at the Vintage site> 
http://vintageairstream.com/rr_topics_bunkbeds.html   and found it surprising that the 
original advertisement 
appearing here says that the cot will hold "even the largest child". Note that 
the capacity is 200 lbs!  Now that would be the largest child!

At 150 lbs it seems if I am ever lucky enough to find the cot I could revert 
to my childhood and sleep there myself.
