We have a 1970 27 ft AS and I have replaced the furnace.  It just 
slides out after you remove the gas and electrical lines.
If you replace it  with a new one you will have to replace the case 
that is hard mounted to the floor.    And if you do replace with a new 
unit DON'T get a higher BTU unit.   We did,  you will have trouble 
getting rid of the extra heat and the new unit will turn off due to 
over heating.
