Re: [VAL] Air conditioner question / TV antenna needed
Bebe:
In the early 1960s air conditioning was a factory option that had to
be ordered before the trailer was built. The factory added another rib
to the trailer to support the air conditioner, and discouraged later
adding air conditioners to trailers without that extra rib.
The 1960's Airstream air conditioner was built by Armstrong. As
with most appliances back then, it was well built well, heavy, and
repairable (as opposed to disposable appliances built today). So, if
your 62 Trade Wind didn't have factory air, it probably doesn't have the
extra rib, drain tube or the 120 volt wiring for later added air
conditioning.
I don't know as a fact, but I imagine today's air conditioners are
lighter in weight than the old Armstrongs, so having that extra rib
installed may not be as crucial as it was back in 1962. I imagine you
will also have to add the drain tube and 120 volt a.c. wiring.
