Re: [VAL] Re: Water Tank Damaging Top of Truck

Trucks are not make nor are they required to build them to the safety
standards of automobiles. This may begin to change as people demand more
safety from their vehicles.

Nothing makes auto/truck makers build a better product like loosing a BIG
lawsuit. $18 million may have caught their attention at least but it's not
enough to make them retool and redesign. Look at all the Highway Patrol
full-sized Ford Victorias that got rear-ended which caused a bolt to
puncture the fuel tank causing a massive explosion and the deaths of many
troopers. They couldn't redesign something so the bolt didn't pierce the
tank and kill troopers? Sure they could have! But how much would it have
cost Ford to retool, redesign, etc. to be "cost effective"?

Remember the GM saddle tanks on the outside rails of the frame on their
pick-up trucks that killed so many people? How many are still on the
road -- better yet, how long did it take GM to STOP making them that way?

Bottom line is always MONEY - how much they'd lose because they had to
retool and redesign.
