Re: [VAL] Insurance Appraisals for Vintage?

My problem is proving it is more than "just an old motor home." Briefly I'll
tell the story. My 1982 Classic 280 Turbo Diesel had an oil change, the
mechanic used the wrong filter. The engine blew after 90 miles on our way to
Florida. We now need a new engine at the cost of $15,000. The mechanic
admitted fault, his insurance company says no he can not admit fault. One
point is that this is "just an old motor home" the adjuster's words and may
not even be worth the $15,000. According to Airstream only 150 of these were
ever made!
How do we establish value when the market is so small? I know I would have
paid twice what I did for this motor home and still called it a bargain.
