" The Carlson furnace won't stay lit." - I had this problem. The Carlson I
have has no fan. Its just a manual lit vented gas furnace. It doesn't have a
thermostat. It has a a little hole covered by a sliding cover where you light
the pilot light. You have to hold the valve to get the pilot to light. Then I
was leaving the hole open to watch the burner operate. The burner would fire up
and run a while then shut off. Turns out that watching the flame was the
culprit. Once I shut the pilot hole the furnace worked perfectly. I think the
draft through the hole was blowing the pilot out. Also the first year I thought
the furnace only operated in wide open mode and it would run us out after 20 or
30 minutes. So I had to manually turn the heater on and off to keep the cabin
comfortable. The next winter I found the gas valve can be set at an intermediate
position and then the heater will not produce as much heat.
"Bowen water heater" - I would try a new thermocouple. They are cheap and easy
to install.
