Some tire carriers I've seen have a hole drilled sideways through the
threaded stud that supports the wheel. After you've done up the nut you just
put a standard pad lock through the hole and lock it. It's not really that
secure but if someone really wants your wheel they're going to get it.
There was a really nice vintage aluminum tire cover on ebay a couple of
months ago. I was kinda interested but figured the shipping from Texas would
be too expensive. It ended up selling for over $800..............way outside
of my price range.
I think they must be available through the custom van markets for more
reasonable prices.
