Kevin,
You might want to consider Polypropolene fiber carpet.  It is a non porous
(almost inert) plastic fiber which is now made in a carpet that looks and
feels like wool.  You clean it with a bucket of water, a garden hose, and
believe it or not a bottle of chlorine bleach!
