Hello Bob,

Maybe DMV does things differently in the sunny southland... but up here 
in Santa Cruz they have no problem doing a routine VIN inspection. I 
have had them done many times at the DMV office. They only refer it to 
the CHP if there is a problem with the number. I agree that AAA is 
simpler for the things that they are able to do, but complicated DMV 
transactions are often beyond their ability and authority to handle.
