The clerk at the AAA office in Carlsbad, CA had no problem walking out to my
Airstream and verifying the serial number from the name plate near the door.
If I had gone down the street to DMV they would have forced me to an
appointment with the Highway Patrol.

Such appointments can take weeks, although I have seen the inspecting
highway patrol officer actually visit this mobile home park on occasion to
obtain registration number.  I have been there and done that and the AAA is
still the best way to go.
