Hi Joy:

You know about the split bushings, right?  You can't get the shocks off and
on without doing that.  The existing shocks probably have split bushings but
you can't see it.  Install one half the bushing over the stud, then the
shock, and then the other half the bushing.  The nut and washer and you're
done.

I'm sure this is covered in T. Patterson's archives.  If you can't find the
info get back to me and I'll send you some.
