Re: [VAC] wd 40 and #0000 steel wool?

Hi Mark,

1 - First order of business is to ask the two people who made the suggestion to show you the
Airstream they polished with that technique. It always pays to ask the truth seeking questions
first.

2 - If you would like YOUR Airstream to look like the one shown in:

http://www2.hudson.net/~spec-dist/interesting%20pics.html

then, I suggest you use a different technique. See the picture by scrolling down to the end of this
series. The owner is a regular contributor to this discussion group. He and others on the list have
shared the technique(s) that will get this kind of result.

3 - Also, you might want to check out the VAC webpage under Frequently Asked Questions:

http://www.airstream.net/

The answer there is good for starters. Obviously, there is a lot more to it than this, but it takes
awhile to get thinking along the lines that will give excellent results. Until you are convinced one
way or the other about using the suggestion offered by your two people, it may be best to go slow.

4 - the A/C can be removed. Only then will you know what type of hole is up there. If the previous
owner cut and expanded the hole, then it's time to find someone who does customizing work and knows
how to make adaptations for the hardware to operate the vent cover ("pop up door").

Others on this list will be offering ideas for you to consider. It sounds like you have found one of
the rare treasures that can be returned to its original splendor. Although my comments are a little
cautious regarding your initial ideas, I'm sure that restoring your Airstream will be a very
satisfying experience. It won't be long before you are posting pictures of a shiny 1949 Curtis
Wright.
