         Thanks for the opinions and the extra warnings.  Well taken.  The 
business about lifting the truck with the jack is automatic for me - I 
always have to do that to ease getting the spring bars attached.
         I hope my post did not suggest that *your* cable/chain was 
attached to the hitch...I just mentioned that because I see lots of 
trailers with it attached to the hitch platform.
