Gene,
From what I've seen, the internal frames were black primer, and the
external tongue and bumper frame were silver.  The step mechanism was
always silver.  

Rustoleum makes a nice aluminum paint that covers well with thin coats,
is long lasting & has a good spray can (good spray pattern) - avoid
cheaper brands, they tend to spray on thick.
