[VAC] Phones - Fulltiming

We've been reading everyone's messages about various phone questions/info.
We'd like your feedback on this brainstorm we had this a.m. over coffee. (c:
We have a cottage we'll use 6 mos of yr. Thot we'd buy a GOOD answering
machine (we've bought many cheapo's).
#1 - We'd be able to call in & change "greeting" telling family what phone
# we could be reached at for how long. This would centralize/simplify our
message system so family members wouldn't have to call each other to find
out where Ma/Pa,Sis/Bro,daughter/son are this week.
#2 - Carl & I would be able to call the cottage phone & be able to tell if
there are any NEW messages & not run up a huge phone bill. We have Sprint
which has 10cts/min in-state & out-state long distance as well as 10cts
phone cards. We realize this probably wouldn't work o/s the U.S.

We need to be able to receive & send messages in timely manner to Carl's
brother due to house(estate) for sale. Neither of his siblings have e-mail.
MY dad is also hospitalized frequently due to smoking/lung disease and
thus MY family needs to be able to reach us quickly as well. We would plan
to check our cottage phone with our 10ct phone card daily (unless
boondocking - hey, we gotta have a life now & then!).

Cell phone expense doesn't appeal to us so we hoping this cottage answering
system might be the "answer" - pun, pun.

Is this a good idea/bad idea?

.....Do you know anyone looking for a darling farmhouse in the country in
Maine? (c:........
