Hey Charlie:

The Carefree awning on my '67 has struts that are curved to the shape of the
trailer and feature no plastic parts at all (except for the black adjusting
nut knurling).  End caps are cast aluminum, for instance. Was either
original to the trailer or installed soon thereafter.  Be glad to sent you a
picture.
