Re: [VAL] '58 Overlander Manual

Steve & Fred -

You might enjoy this. When I bought my Airstream, it had a title, but
it was for a previous owner, not the guy I bought it from. He never
titled it in our state. I went to the DMV branch and asked what I'd
need to get a title and license plate. They told me to bring in any
paperwork I had, have a police check of the VIN, and that would be it.
That sounded too easy.

When I finally actually picked up the trailer and paid for it, I got
the many years old title and had a bill of sale made up, signed and
notarized - just in case.

I got the police inspection form and had it filled out. (By the way,
the officer's parents had owned an Airstream, and he informed me I had
the Rolls Royce of campers!) I took all this stuff back to the DMV
branch. The woman told me that I'd have to get the previous owner to
get a new title in our state and in his name and then transfer that
title to my name! I told her what I had been told previously by a DMV
employee. She got her supervisor, but the story remained that I'd have
to go through the above procedure.

However, and get this, during the conversation, she said that if I
hadn't had a previous out-of-state title, that the trailer was so old,
I could simply use the bill of sale and get a new title in my name!

I thanked her, walked out the door, drove 20 miles to another DMV
branch, handed them the bill of sale and walked out minutes later with
a new title and a license plate!

See you down by the barn . . . .
