Yes, as I mentioned is was fairly common in the pre air conditioning 
days to paint the exterior top (roof) white. Some were done on just the 
roof while others went window to window.
The aluminum surface has to be etched for paint to stick well. Etching a 
roof would have to be done VERY carefully to keep the etch off the side 
sheets. Talk to a local auto paint seller for etching material.
