Re: [VAL] Fresh water pump

Marvin,

The original PAR pump used in that era are still around but have gotten
quite expensive, generally over $200 for a new one. When Airstream went
looking for a replacement they originally changed to the Shur Flo. The
Shur Flo 2088 series is the currently available pump from them. They run
$65-$85 depending on source. More recently Airstream changed to the Aqua
Tek pump. Where the Shur Flo is a 2.8 gpm/45 psi pump the Aqua Tek runs
at 5+ gpm at 65 psi.
It is not generally considered a good idea to put the more powerfull
pump in an older system. Any weaknesses would be overwhelmed and it
draws over twice the current when running. Hard on both older electrical
and plumbing.
The Shur Flo will fit in the same spot as the PAR did. The electrical
connections are the same. The Shur Flo pump fittings are 1/2" were the
old PAR's are 3/4". Usually because the hose is old and prettty flexible
you only have to tighten the clamp a little more to secure the fitting.
Just keep and eye on it for awhile.
