Re: [VACList] MYSTERY LIGHT '66 GlobeTrotter
Rick -
That red neon lamp in the left side of the door opening to the strangely
named "One Stop Service Center" in the rear of the coach, is your Reversed
Polarity Indicator.
Campgrounds electrics can be pretty bad, and early AC connectors weren't
always grounded or polarity observed. Some campgrounds had (and have)
reversed polarity or badly leaking back current. If you plug your coach
bass-ackwards you should see this lamp light up. The trailer shell was wired
to neutral, which means in reverse it could become hot. For further testing
stand in a puddle and touch the trailer. If you have to pick yourself up
again, you may have a reversed polarity issue.
All kidding aside, this is a good safety indicator and I keep mine in working
condition and was restored along with the rest of the coach. I'm a young pup
of 40, but seniors with health issues could be easily killed in such
scenarios. Make sure it's in working order, and learn to love it.
