I used to feel your pain. My cover was cracked and I tried to make another
but wasn't satisfied with the results. Then one day I remember the days in
high school shop class where we melted lawn mower engines and poured the
molten metal into molds we made using sand. Well to make a long story short,
using very fine sand I made a block then put my cover in then put the other
half of the block on it, filled with sand (both are packed tight) then I
separated the blocks and removed my (damaged) cover, then used a torch to
melt metal in a thick metal bowl (1/2" thick) then poured into the mold. Now
I have a nice cast aluminum cover.
Maybe I should keep this to myself and make some serious money.
If you have the time and patience to try it good luck, you'll be impressed.
