If you do a lot of towing, you will rebuild the automatic long before the manual tranny. 
Unless of course you like to ride the clutch. The clutch in my 1988 Chevy 4X4 gave out 
with 205787 miles on it that was about five years ago. The new clutch should last that 
long, at least I hope it does.
