RE: [VACList] access doors/thanks

Lexxy,
You can get new locks at any RV supply. They come in different thickness
and arm sizes. There is a trick though. The old lock is held in place with
a clip inside the skin of the door. You have to remove one of the sides of
the door and use a screwdriver or similar tool to remove the clip. Job is
also compounded by the insulation inside the door. Once the old lock is
removed, you can put a new one in. The new ones are held in place with a
nut on the side of the arm. Here is the other trick. Since the door is
hollow and the nut is on the inside of the door, you need to put some sort
of spacer inside the door skin to keep it from collapsing the skins while
keeping the nut tight. I found that if you buy several of the same locks
from the same place the keys will be interchangable. Another option is to
forgo the key and install simple cam locks which work the same way without
the key. Not a great ideas though if you store valuables in the storage
areas or a good battery in the rear.
Good Luck
Pete
