For those of you who aren't techno masters like Dr. J,
 acetic acid is VINEGAR.  If you still aren't sure
about his advice, soak a few pennies (or some
aluminum) in a glass of it over the weekend.

I like the jelly filled connectors.  They use those
for phone line splices in outdoor cabinets.  They hold
up for years and years.  They make all sorts of them,
too, not just wire nuts.
