I am not sure I understand your last sentence.  Does it mean the sealer did
NOT provide any protection to oxidation.  So it's not worth doing?

Also, I think your right about needing to polish to get rid of some of the
bad areas.  I have found that much of it will not come off with simiple
stripping.  There are some black areas, and large white areas that are not
affected by the stripper.
