[VAC] Re: heaters

Glad Tim asked this. I read about the catalytics first in a brochure from an
RV Solar outfit. They suggested the heaters for electricity savings (when
boodocked) but suggested leaving the furnace thermostat at a setting that
will cause the blower to come on occasionally and circulate warmed air from
the cabin into the tank areas in the belly.

So, it sounds like I can quit using my furnace but not actually get rid of
it!

Also, my Camping World catalog tells me I can buy an 8000 BTU catalytic for
$314 ($39.25 per thousand BTUs) or a 24,000 Suburban furnace for $479
($19.96 per thousand BTUs). Another catalog tells me the 8,000 BTU unit is
good for up to 23' of trailer. So do I need two for my 25-footer? All this
makes the catalytics seem pretty expensive.

Finally, am I leaving the vent open when using a catalytic to avoid cardon
monoxide build up? If so, wouldn't it make sense just to use my leaky old
furnace and crack open a vent?

Really appreciate all the discussion on this heaing issue, it's helping me
weigh the options . . .

 . . . but I remain, as yet, confused . . .
