[VAC] Rear End Ratios

Hate to be a doofus, but  . . .

Tell me about rear end ratios. There's much talk of this in every thread on
tow vehicles. Big numbers seem to be better for towing, worse for mileage. I
take it the ratio represents the number of turns of the crankshaft it takes
to turn the drive wheels one revolution. Yes? So big numbers mean more power
and less distance per revolution. Yes?
