Dan, this is offlist...

My '99VW turbo diesel uses synthetic oil. The recommended change interval is
10K. I have been changing it at 5K simply because I hope to keep the car for
at least 200K, hopefully longer if the body isn't rotted by all the salt
they use in this area of the country.

My '96 Dodge Cummins turbo diesel uses regular oil with a change interval of
3K. According to the manual the use of synthetics does not change the
interval...its still 3K!!! Since it takes 10 quarts of oil I stick with the
cheeper conventional oil.
