[VAC] Re: Clearcoat VS Polish...Discuss Safety Issues

Well yes, I think that the gray is attractive too........but it is
still probably going to be shiny enough to cause a blinding reflection if
the sun catches it just right. For that matter, so will untreated car rear
windows as well as waxed vehicles. So will many of those 18 wheeler tanker
units which are a shiny silver.
My real point was that I don't believe that liability because of a
shiny Airstream is a concern. I personally prefer the shiny finish, but the
oxidized aluminum is ok too. Really, whatever suits the owner. Best of all
worlds to me would be a finish which has been shined, and then retreated
with clear coat finish. James Weston has made noises about being able to
apply a clear coat, but in view of his well voiced opinions of me, and the
VAC as well as the Airstream List, I would not want to deal with him.
I was told by Cliff Jones at Bob Jones in Houston that they could do a
clear coating, but I never went into specifics with him. Possibly at a
later date I will do so. It would certainly save a lot of my time and labor
that I spend in re-shining my trailer, but the cost might be more than I
would want to pay.
