[VAC] Re: Exhaust brakes -/ Jake Brakes

I was somewhat aware that the diesels freewheel when coasting and know from experience that trucks with Jake Brakes make quite a racket when they are used ...Their use is banned on a number of nearby freeways... I would have thought blocking the exhaust would make the diesel quieter... can someone straighten my convoluted understanding of this brake system?? A URL would be sufficient, I think... Another Diesel wannabe Jim
