[VAC] Re: Shower Valve in '70 31 ft. Sovereign

First off, do you have a trunk?
If so removing the valve is relatively simple (to describe)
First remove the knob and trim plate around the valve. This should leave the
valve loose in the wall. From the outside through the trunk locate the copper
lines that disappear around the curbside between the outer wall and the tub.
Sweat these lines loose at a convenient fitting. Pull the lines with the valve
attached out through the space between the walls. Replace the valve and
reinstall. Odds are the valve is sweated in. It is still available.
If you don't have a trunk you will have to do the job through the cabinet under
the sink.
But before you do either consider this. Most problems with this valve are in the
removable core. There is a U shaped clip holding the core piece in. Remove the
clip with needle nose pliers. Sometimes the valve can be pulled out at this
point. Often the special tool provided with the new core is required to remove
the old one. The cores are available through Moen supply sources.
