[VAC] Re: an electrical question
Scott,
Don't even consider tying the safety ground prong on an outlet to the
neutral. You'd create a condition where any one of several wiring faults
could cause either the trailer itself or your appliances to become
electrically "hot" and well-capable of killing someone.
Gerald is correct that the best method would be to run a new wire from
each receptacle back to the ground connection at your panel and thus to
the Green wire in your cord. I personally think that connecting to the
trailer's inside aluminum skin would probably be OK, but if you elect to
do that, use a machine screw, nut, and star-type lock washer to attach
the wire. The lock washer goes between the wire eye and the aluminum
skin to facilitate electrical continuity. It might be a good idea to use
NoAlox or similar anti-oxidant paste at the connection also, along with
stainless steel screws and nuts. Yes, it's a bit half-assed, but will
probably work and be safe.
