I don't see a problem using it.
I would add a fuse not to protect the drill but to protect the wiring in
the A/S.
Do make sure to wire it correctly with + going to+ and - going to -.
I do not know what kind of speed control it has and it might like the
correct hookup or get mad and blow on you.
Quite a few 12V lighter plugs have a fuse built-in so look for that and
you might save some time/trouble.
I usually "make" ni-cad packs when they get hard to find or expensive.
I just made up two for a pair of Motorola radios.
Motorola wanted $65 for them and I made them for $14 with much better
batteries to boot.
