[VAC] Re: 28' 1970's

RJ -
Before you go completely nuts trying to figure this out (although i
absolutely admire your dedication and persistence), remember that there
would be a period of 'overlap' during transition periods, particularly with
high-end, largely hand-fabrication manufacturing. A case in point, about 25
years ago, i undertook the frame-up restoration of a custom-bodied (James
Young) Bentley, listed on the registration book as a '1949'... after some
lengthy research (pre-internet, remember), I traced the frame, chassis, and
engine numbers to 1939. It turned out that this vehicle had been delivered
to the coachbuilders right about the time the world entered into a major
'transition'. As a result, the car wasn't completed until sometime in late
1948, when aluminum (or 'aluminium') became more available in Great Britain.
Quite a long 'overlap'.

My '1981' Dodge 'Champion' RV has engine/running gear from 1979.

I would not be surprised to find that Airstream model-changes were somewhat
intermixed.

I'd still like to find out if my '49 'Clipper' was indeed the first
'rear-bath' model in the Airstream line - it would make a difference with
respect to my restoration. I'm now leaning toward restoring it to the
original layout.
