Basa core isn't a bad idea, either. All kinds of boats are made out of
end-grain balsa laminated between two layers of Fiberglass and gel
coat--very light and very strong. Boats also use foam inside a fiberglass
sandwich, too. Wonder if anyone makes panels of this material. If so, it
shouldn't be too expensive.
