[VAC] Re: Huston: we have lift off....

Tryke, you taking pictures? You are venturing where only the daring and
technically gifted go - the frame off restoration. Ranks even above the
stretched end panel body section replacements.

I think you classified at one time your trailer as relatively sound, and
I think what you found with the rotted floor is a more typical condition
than not. That wood floor is the Achilles' heel of the vintage
Airstream. I bet in 5 years frame off restorations are standard
procedure, so consider yourself a pioneer. (take good notes &
pictures).

I like the plan to completely fix the hidden parts. It's easy to
overlook and hide such details because they can't be seen or utilized,
but in the long run I'll bet it pays off. Way to go...

I think if Wally's engineer's had designed a better perimeter sealing
method, such as mounting the lower wall supports direct to the frame
with the flooring installed inside, or if they used the aircraft
honeycomb panels that have been around for 50 years, or at least
installed drip sheathing before installing the body, you wouldn't have
to be doing this major surgery.

Best of Luck,
RJ
