 You mention a good point that I didn't in my other post:

It's best to not empty a propane tank completely. IOW, don't disconnect
the line, open the valve and let the residual gas drain out. And
ESPECIALLY, don't leave the valve open.

As long as the tank isn't allowed to get rusty on the outside and there
is always at least a bit of gas on the inside, a propane tank should
last forever.
