My dad didn't like the weight of the spare on the tongue or the location
of the battery inside so he removed the spare tire carrier up front and
hauled the spare in the truck bed. And then put the battery right behind
the propane tanks. I use a tire carrier clamp from Putco that clamps to
the pickup bed rail. With a topper on the truck, I believe spares stay
with the truck longer than hanging on the winch underneath and are
easier to get to.
