You didn't get a heavy duty flasher. You have to specify heavy duty for
trailer towing duty else you get the same effect. The standard duty
flasher, including those from NAPA, are designed to change speed to
indicate a loss of lamps. The bimetallic element in a standard flasher
heats by the lamp current so heats much faster with a trailer attached.
The heavy duty flasher heating rate is independent of lamp load.
