 Gerald is correct, you need a heavy-duty flasher. Or, you can do what I
did:

I installed a 'trailer lighting isolator' gadget. This thing is sold for
the purpose of operating trailer lights (with their combined turn/brake
function) from a vehicle that has seperate bulbs for turn and brake
lights. It also switches the tail/marker lights on from a seperate power
source. The upshot is that my trailer lights are totally isolated from
the truck wiring, seperately fused, and all. No need to change the
flasher, either.
