Re: [VAC] Help! Running Lights

Jay,

There are some simple tools that will bring you much closer to diagnosing
electrical problems. One great (and in my mind, a must have) tool would be a
test light, you can buy one or even make your own if your handy with a
lightbulb and a piece of wire, for a simple version.

First check the hot side, usaully the only wire in each marker light, assumming
that the fixture is grounded to the body. Once you've determined that there is
power to the light fixture, then the problem has been localized to the fixture.
If the test shows that there is no power to the fixture, you must step back to
the next point in the wiring system and see if there is power at this junction,
this could be inside the trailer or next to the frame. A wiring digram would
help immensely at this stage.

The trick is to localize the power drop off and repair the connection to get
the power back up to the fixture. Since all your other marker light are in
working order, it may be worth your time to simply run a new wire (or two, if
you suspect a bad ground) to the affected fixtures from a functioning fixture.
