Re: [VAC] Bathroom Talk

Jon,

I have not seen your AS but I agree with WAM. The floor is most likely
aluminum if it's crumbling. You can probably scrap off some metal with a
pen knife if it's aluminum, otherwise, it could be stainless steel.

One approach you could use is to bond a sheet of metal over the existing
floor. Use brown paper or cardboard and make a template of the area you
want to cover. Go to a sheet metal fabrication shop and have them cut a
piece of aluminum to match the template. I would ask for 5052 or 6061
aluminum with some temper (hardness), the more the better. I would epoxy
the aluminum to the floor but first I would sand both surface to be bonded
and then solvent clean. If the floor is very irregular I would probably
get a slightly heavier gauge aluminum to help smooth out the surface while
the epoxy cures. Use an epoxy that has some body to it. For instance,
West System epoxy would probably to too thin but could be thickened with
one of their products such as microspheres. After applying the epoxy,
placing the new metal in place, I would get something to load the new metal
to make it as flat as possible. Several thoughts here. One, you could cut
an identical piece of plywood, place over the metal, and add weights to the
plywood. Add something like wax paper around the edge of the plywood so it
doesn't bond to any stray epoxy. Or two, you could get some sand and put
in some plastic bags to load the new floor while the epoxy cures.

Just some thoughts that may help. Good luck.
