Al,
 If you have the converter with the 3AG fuses that feed the branch
circuits, it also has a fuse that feeds the battery. It's an unusual
size/design, but I finally found some at the Dayton Hamvention last
year. 

There should be a heavy #6 wire from the converter '+' terminal that
goes to the battery, also another one from the '-' terminal.
