The older refer's were not designed to stay light while traveling. In fact
they could get cranky in a stiff wind while parked. The solid door used back
then helped reduce that possibility. The combination of the top and bottom
vent is designed to draft, as such traveling can get quite a lot of air going
past the back of the refer. The problem is in the design of the burner
covers. If you could look at a new refer and compare it to yours you should
see a nearly complete cage of solid metal around the burner on the new one.
